Here at Campaign Creators we talk a lot about the logistics of starting and running a business and what you can do to help your business grow from a marketing standpoint. However, the one thing that most entrepreneurs might over look is the kind of environment that they are going to create once they have enough revenue to hire people.
Traditionally, when we think of offices we think of claustrophobic cubicles. However the new trend in business is actually the opposite; the newest fad is to have an open office environment. If you've never heard of this term before, an open office is basically when there are no or low walls to divide coworkers. This trend may be seen as absurd, but according to the International Facility Management Association, it is sweeping the nation, because 70% of businesses report using an open office model. With that said, here are 4 reasons why you should create an open work environment for your business.
Open work environments are great because they break down the barriers for communication to flow between one another. They also boost moral because open environments encourage employees to interact with one another and bond. Another bonus to an open work environment is that they diminish the amount of interruptions that cubicles cause.
Open work environments work because they hold people accountable. Without the security of walls to hide behind, you can't hide the fact that you just spent the last thirty minutes watching cat videos on youtube.
In addition to a sense of community and productivity, open offices are great because they inspire creativity. They allow co-workers to bounce ideas off each other, which ultimately improves the content that is created within your company.
Open environments also ease interactions with company visitors. Instead of having to create a map just so they can navigate the office, they can now easily find the desired person just by looking up. The implementation of an open work environment also helps employees form relationships with each other, you no longer have to refer to your coworkers by their quirks. “That girl who sits in the back corner, and only eats yogurt and fruit for lunch” will quickly turn into “Jane, who has two dogs and a Vespa and simply enjoys eating yogurt for lunch.”
Those are just some of the benefits to working in an open office. Here at Campaign Creators we all work in an open work environment, and because of this we have really been able to bond with eachother. I've never worked in an office with cubicles where everyone gets together to grill chicken for lunch time.
